Immigration Justice Clinic After graduating from the New York University School of Law with the prize for the highest grade point average and the Sommer Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship, character, and service, Professor Markowitz clerked for US District Judge Frederic Block of the Eastern District of New York. From 2002 to 2005, he was a Soros Justice Fellow and staff attorney at the Bronx Defenders, where he developed an in-house immigration project that offered representation in deportation proceedings to people with criminal convictions and counsel to immigrant constituency organizations on systemic reform and advocacy. From 2005 to 2007, he was acting assistant professor at the New York University School of Law, where he also served as supervising attorney for the Immigrant Rights Clinic. Recently he directed the Immigrant Defense Clinic at the Hofstra School of Law. Professor Markowitz has also taught graduate education courses in constructivist mathematics.
