Thank you for applying to the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law!  We value your interest in the law school and have provided this option to help you monitor the current status of your application.

An applicant's current status may appear as one of the following:

  • Application received
  • Incomplete
  • Complete and under review
  • Decision rendered and sent

The online status check will also enable you to verify your contact information, receipt of letters of recommendation, and mailings sent from the Office of Admissions.

Access
You will receive an email from the Office of Admissions confirming receipt of your law school application within 2-3 weeks of submitting your application. This email will also contain your login and password for the online status check.

If you have deleted this email, misplaced your login and password, or become locked out of your account, please email us at lawinfo@yu.edu and we will send you new access information.

Mailings
The Admissions Office will notify you via e-mail when we have received your application and again when your application has been marked complete and sent to the Committee. We will also endeavor to email you about specific missing application materials that are not covered by the online status check. However, it is up to you as the applicant to ensure that all application materials are received in a timely manner and prior to our application deadlines.

Decisions
In recent years, Cardozo has received more than 3,500 applications from an impressive pool of J.D. applicants. The Admissions Committee generally reviews applications in the order in which they become complete. However, decisions are not necessarily made in the order in which applications are forwarded for review.

During the review process, the Committee not only evaluates the merits of each application individually, but also relative to all others applications in the pool. Some applications may receive a decision fairly quickly; in many cases, however, the Committee’s comparative appraisal of a file is a lengthier process, to allow the Committee to re-review an application and carefully assess a candidate’s strength in comparison to the full applicant pool.

As long as a candidate’s file is completed in a timely manner, her/his application will be thoroughly reviewed and given full and complete consideration. Due to the careful assessment of each individual application, the Admissions Committee is unable to guarantee a decision will be made on an application within a particular time frame.

Applications are considered complete and submitted to the Admissions Committee for review only when all supporting documents, including letters of recommendation, are received.

Applicants may be admitted to Cardozo, offered a place on our wait list, or denied admission. Offers of admission are sent to applicants via regular U.S. mail. All other decisions are sent via e-mail.
