The Innocence Project was founded here, allowing generations of Cardozo students to help overturn wrongful convictions through DNA evidence. The Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic represents clients and has successfully fought to change immigration policy in New York City. Other clinics represent elderly and disabled clients in civil cases, advocate claimants in cases referred by the New York Stock Market, and represent New York City indie film makers. Eighteen clincs allow students to transform lives in the pursuit of justice and gain practical lawyering skills.
Our partnerships with businesses, government agencies and public institutions put you at the center of New York's legal world. Field Clinics, such as the Health Care Reform Field Clinic, allow students to work in small groups with supervising attorneys at law offices around the city. Externships provide 250 students each year with work throughout New York City under the supervision of leaders in their fields. Rigorous hands-on experience, astute feedback and powerful connections will give you a real-world edge.
The Intensive Trial Advocacy Program (ITAP) and Intensive Mediation Advocacy Program (IMAP) are examples of simulation programs designed to force students out of their comfort zone. ITAP, one of the premier programs of its kind in the country, is a two-week boot camp for trial lawyers. IMAP is a pioneer program that teaches students to mediate and negotiate settlements.
Moot Court Competitions give students the opportunity to test their oral advocacy and legal writing skills.
The Lawyering and Legal Writing program lets students work in a small law office environment. Students analyze and write persuasively in real-life contexts, integrating doctrinal learning and analysis to create actionable letters, Fall Clinics Info Session memoranda and legal briefs.
