Increasingly, both U.S. and international law recognize that housing rights should include an individual's right to habitable and affordable housing, as well as the right to representation to defend against eviction from one's home. Cardozo's Housing Rights Clinic represents people facing eviction and, in some cases, assists persons in obtaining repairs at their residences. Students in the clinic are provided with an intensive lawyering experience that includes litigation and public policy. They assist in providing advice to unrepresented litigants in Housing Court and may work with the clinical supervisor on housing law reform projects. Students simultaneously take a seminar that explores substantive and procedural housing law, particularly as it relates to the clinic's cases.
