Yeshiva University Trustee's Ongoing Labor Dispute with Health Care Workers
A lunch-talk with Ellen Dichner (attorney for SEIU 1199)
THURSDAY, April 18, 12:00-1:00 PM, Room 407 | Falafel and beverages will be served.
Yeshiva University Trustee, Moshael Straus, runs the hugely profitable Care One and HealthBridge nursing home chains in NJ, CT and other states. The NLRB recently found that these companies violated federal labor laws 17 times. Their workers have been subject to lock outs (resulting in mismanagement of patient medication and poor care), and more than 600 caregivers recently went on strike, protesting unilateral deep cuts in their pay and benefits, including their health insurance coverage. Meanwhile Moshael Straus continues to endow Yeshiva University with $500,000 annually, and his brother, Daniel Straus (also owner of those companies), endows NYU Law with $1.25 million annually.
We invite you to join us in a presentation of this ongoing labor dispute, with the lead attorney for SEIU 1199, Ellen Dichner, including a discussion about the ethical responsibilities for Yeshiva University and Cardozo School of Law.
THURSDAY 4/18 at NOON | Hosted by Cardozo Labor and Employment Law Society, and Cardozo NLG (National Lawyers Guild).
