The Telecommunications Workshop, an externship program for which students receive credit, is an important complement to the coursework.  Students gain hands-on experience by working in nonprofit organizations that deal with regulation, intellectual property rights, and other areas of entertainment and media law.

Participants work approximately ten to fifteen hours per week and meet periodically to discuss the issues and focus of work at their placements.
Functioning like a clinic, the workshop allows students to write memos or drafts of briefs or filings for the Federal Communications Commission.  Previous placements include Channel 13, the City of New York Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DOITT), the Columbia Institute for Tele-Information (CITI), and the Markle Foundation.
